Welcome to CEMAST

Welcome to CEMAST campus, Fareham College’s Centre of Excellence in Engineering, Manufacturing and Advanced Skills Training.

All Automotive, Engineering and Manufacturing programmes run by Fareham College are delivered at the CEMAST campus, located at the Daedalus airfield in Lee-on-the-Solent.

As well as full time and part time students studying here, the CEMAST campus acts as the main learning centre for students in apprenticeship programmes with our partner companies including BAE Systems, GE Aviation, Coopervision, Halfords and South Western Railway, to name but a few.

Since it opened in 2014, the CEMAST campus has become renowned as a pioneering state-of-the-art facility in terms of its industry-leading workshops, technology and equipment, providing students with a unique and industry-standard training environment.

The £12 million centre of excellence has attracted significant high-profile attention, with regular appearances in the press, local and national media and a series of visits from heads of education institutions from abroad, prominent ministers and VIPs, including HRH The Princess Royal.

Changing worlds with engineering innovation

Fareham College’s CEMAST campus provides students with the best possible environment for studying engineering and manufacturing-based subjects. The campus has been designed around large, fully functional workshops so that students can experience a busy workplace culture and gain an awareness of safety while learning.

The Centre’s huge contemporary concourse provides a light, bright area in which to work or relax between lessons, with plenty of seating, tables and workstations. There is a friendly, lively atmosphere on the campus, with dedicated support on hand for all students.

CEMAST facilities

The workshops at the CEMAST campus house a range of leading tools, machinery and technologies, ensuring students have access to the most up-to-date industry-standard equipment to support a range of specialisms. In addition, students based at the CEMAST campus still have full access to all the facilities available at the College’s Bishopsfield Road campus and regular buses run between the two campuses.
Aerospace Engineering Facilities at CEMAST

Aeronautical & Aerospace

Our extensive Aerospace training facilities include composite repair benches, a full-size Westland Wasp Helicopter and a newly acquired, stripped-down Hunting Jet Provost. These aircraft are used at RAF and MOD training centres and will give experience of working with fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
Electrical & Electronic Engineering Facilities at CEMAST

Electrical & Electronic Engineering

Our Electronics workshops and laboratories have been designed to replicate industry standards and develop student’s skills to meet the growing demand for technicians in this area. Whether you are designing a circuit board or MULTI SIM, using CAD software or PLCs (programmable logic controllers), or examining instrumentation and control hardware, our state-of-the-art facilities provide an unrivalled training environment.
Automotive and Motorsport Facilities at CEMAST

Automotive & Motorsports

Fareham College’s CEMAST campus is proud to have a fully functional garage, diagnostic tools and two track-ready racing cars onsite, offering Automotive students’ in-depth knowledge and understanding of specialised race vehicles.
Marine Engineering Facilities at CEMAST

Marine Engineering

Our Marine Engineering workshops include extensive facilities for bench and hand fitting, welding, marine inboard, outboard engines and electrical maintenance. There is specialised equipment for thermodynamics, hydraulic, mechanical and electronic practical work.
Manufacturing Facilities at CEMAST

Manufacture

We offer excellent facilities for students training in advanced manufacturing technologies, design, development and operations. Our high-class Manufacturing workshops are equipped with a vast range of processing equipment, machining technology, tooling and production kit to replicate an industry-standard environment and offer a unique training experience.
3D Printing Technology at CEMAST

3D Printing

To ensure that our students have access to the latest equipment, the CEMAST campus has also invested in seven 3D printers and a digitizer. Representing a significant advancement in the manufacturing industry, this new technology is a fast and highly innovative tool for making professional-quality models and an excellent way to test mechanical systems and produce components.
Computer Aided Design (CAD) Facilities at CEMAST

CAD / CAM

Working in new industry-standard classrooms and workshops, our students use equipment including HASS CNC machinery and design and manufacturing software such as SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDCAM, to create engineering solutions of the future.

Additional Facilities

The CEMAST campus has its own Learning Resource Centre, with over 48 PCs, access to laptops, and a wealth of printed and electronic resources. There is an onsite café, serving hot and cold food and drinks throughout the day, including barista-style Starbucks coffee, and outside courtyard areas where students can socialise with friends between lessons – or have a game of football or basketball on our mini sports pitch!

CEMAST Employer Parterships

We work with local industry leaders to ensure the skills, qualifications and progressions we offer are the best in the region.
In addition to teaching our full time and part time students, the CEMAST Campus is the training centre for hundreds of apprentices completing work-based training with Fareham College and local employers. Due to the high level of expertise required to enter these sectors, the first year of our Engineering and Manufacturing apprenticeships are run exclusively at the CEMAST campus to make sure that students have all the basic technical skills required for the workplace, before continuing on a day release basis.
