  • Requirements: This subject requires a good level of literacy, ideally working towards Level 1 to support the theory, anatomy and physiology content within the
    Level 2 programme.
  • Details: The Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy may include a number of units:

    ■ Eyelash and brow treatments

Level 2 Nail Technology Services

  • Requirements: No formal entry requirement for this course. E3 minimum level of English required to enable the successful completion of the knowledge required.
  • Details: This subject consists of theory and practical input to support the learning of manicure and nail technology treatments. You will be expected to perform practical skills such as:

    ■ Nail technology
    ■ Nail art
  • Content: The subject consists of anatomy and physiology, technical theory to support treatments and practical application of manicure, nail technology and nail art skills.

  • Progression: This course will provide a seamless progression on to our Nail Technology course and a career as a nail technician.

  • Requirements: No formal entry requirement for this course. E3 minimum level of English required to enable the successful completion of the knowledge required.
  • Details: This Level 3 course will cover topics such as:
    ■ Acrylic
    ■ Hard gel
    ■ Silk wrap
    ■ Tip application, natural overlay and sculpture
    ■ Pink and white (a French manicure)
    ■ 3D art demonstration coloured acrylic.
    ■ You will also cover a photographic unit which is part of your planning and events section, along with Health and Safety that is covered in the salon management section.
  • Content: The subject consists of anatomy and physiology, technical theory to support treatments and practical application of manicure, pedicure and nail art skills.

Level 3 Diploma in Make-up Artistry

  • Duration: 20 weeks
  • Requirements: No experience or qualifications needed.
  • Details: This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a make-up artist including mandatory units covering the following:
    ■ Applying make-up
    ■ Instruction on make-up
    ■ Fashion and photographic make-up
    ■ Media make-up
    ■ Camouflage make-up
    ■ Airbrush make-up
    ■ Promoting products and services
  • Assessment: The course will be assessed through the use of written tasks, practical tasks and oral questioning. All practical formative assessments will be completed at the Fareham College training salon while the summative assessments will take place in our commercial salon, Salon 141, on paying clients. An element of home study will be expected to support the completion of written tasks.
  • Progression: The Level 3 Diploma in Make-up Artistry (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a make-up artist. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as a make-up artist, as the units contained in this qualification cover.
  • Considerations: You are advised to purchase a uniform. A number of make-up kits will also need to be purchased containing products and equipment to support the completion of the programme. Level 3 Certificate in Fashion & Photography Make-up

Applications for this course are now closed. Start dates for next September will be available from summer 2018.

  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Requirements: No experience or qualifications needed.
  • Details: The primary outcome of the Level 3 Certificate in Fashion and Photographic Make-up (QCF) is to prepare you to enter the beauty or media sector
    as a specialist make-up artist, with the specific skill of providing fashion and photographic make-up services. All the units in this qualification directly relate to the role of a specialist make-up artist.
  • Assessment: The course will be assessed through the use of written tasks, practical tasks and oral questioning. All practical formative assessments will be completed at the Fareham College training salon whilst the summative assessments will take place in our commercial salon, Salon 141, on paying clients. An element of home study will be expected to support the completion of written tasks.
  • Progression: This qualification will prepare you for the role of a specialist make-up artist in the beauty, media or arts sector. On successful completion of this qualification you could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include:
    ■ Theatre, film, print media, photographic studios
    ■ Beauty and/or hair salons
    ■ Independent/self-employed/mobile/home based
    settings
    ■ Product distribution and training

Applying for a course that has a concession?

Then the course could be free! Some courses are eligible for funding if you are an unemployed individual, on a state benefit* and you want to enter employment and need the skills from one of our funded courses to achieve this.

* (Income Support (universal credit), Job Seekers, Housing Benefit, Council tax Benefit, Pension Credit, ESA contribution Based, ESA work related activity group. Includes SFA funded courses only. You must be aged 19-23 on 31 August 2014. You must produce evidence of the benefit in your name when you enrol. Concessions do not apply to higher education courses.

The fee for your chosen course is listed in the individual course sections accessed on this page. It includes the cost of tuition plus the cost of any exam and registration fee charged by the exam board (if applicable).

Are there any other costs I may have to pay?

I’m an international student – are my course fees different?

If you have not been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for more than three years before the start of your course (excluding any time spent in full-time education), different course fees may apply to you – please call 01329 815 200 to find out more. Fareham College cannot sponsor Tier 4 student visas.

My employer is funding my course – what do I need to do?

You will need to complete an Employer Authorisation form, and return to the Enrolments team, and your employer will be invoiced accordingly.

How do I pay for my course?

You can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card. And for courses over £500 we offer a payment by instalment service to help spread the cost of your course. A £250 minimum deposit is required if you choose to pay by instalments. Please contact the College for more information.
