This practical course is perfect for anybody who is aiming to gain entry into the Uniformed Public Services such as the Army, Royal Navy, Police, Prison and Fire Service. The course looks at certain criteria such as physical fitness, leadership skills, navigation as well as current affairs and service routine.
The qualification will consist of 5 mandatory units and 8 optional units. To achieve Level 3 you need to successfully complete 5 mandatory and 3 of the optional units. The course will cover:
• Employment to a chosen Uniformed Service
• Physical fitness
• Leadership skills
• Legal Implications of physical actions
• Advanced map reading and navigation
• Planning and leading adventurous activities
• Current affairs
• Personal protection
It will be delivered by a majority of practical work in and out of the classroom as well as outdoor activities. As the course is vocationally based, it is supported by visiting speakers from a variety of the Uniformed Services as well as visits to various establishments and outdoor facilities.
Direct entry into one of the Uniformed Services. Alternatively, you will be able to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma. Please be aware that this course will not draw down any UCAS points for entry to university.
4 GCSE’s at C or above including English and Maths or Level 2 Diploma course at Merit standard.
This is a one year course.
There will be a £100 course cost towards trips and visits. Course T-shirts are to be pruchased direct by the student from Skoolkit in Fareham, at a cost of approx £25. Sports kit is an essential part of your course as well as providing sturdy walking boots and outdoor wear (trousers and warm tops for your outside activities). You will be required to wear the course t-shirts and polo shirts for visits and daily wear and participate in all activities and visits as well as attending one of our residential courses.
All Uniformed Services students have the opportunity to complete a Level 2 Stewarding Award through Southampton Football Club (subject to funding). Students on Level 1 and 2 courses will also study for qualifications in Functional Skills including English and Maths.
