  • Requirements: This course is for beginners. There is no need for any prior accounting knowledge or experience, this entry-level course will give you a solid background in single entry bookkeeping.
  • Details: If you wish to improve your work prospects or are a business owner and want to gain the knowledge to do your own books, this Introductory Award in Bookkeeping will equip you with the skills you need.

  • Requirements: You do not need any qualifications to begin this course, but you must have a good standard of literacy and numeracy together with an interest in accounting.
  • Details: If you are new to accounting then this Association for Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 2 qualification will provide you with an excellent introduction to the subject. During this course, you will learn the basic accounting principles, gain experience in using accounting software and insight into accounting business environments. Please note that course fees do not include the membership fee to the Association of Accounting Technicians. This is a requirement of the course and an additional cost that should be allowed for.

Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice

Start date: 09.01.2018 | Day of week: Tues | Time: 18.00-21.00

  • Duration: One year
  • Requirements: Minimum of four GCSEs at grades C/4 or above including English and Maths. Ideally you will be working in a legal environment, such as a firm of solicitors or a legal department.
  • Details: CILEx Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice forms the first academic stage in the process of becoming a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer. The course recognises the growing number of students who are either interested in a short but rounded introduction to law and practice or have a specific learning need within an area of law and legal practice.
  • Content: During this one year course you will complete a total of five units:
    ■ Introduction to law and practice
    ■ Civil litigation
    ■ Law of tort
    ■ Client care skills
    ■ Legal research skills

Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice

  • Duration: One year
  • Requirements: You need to have successfully completed the CILEx Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice to progress to the Diploma.
  • Details: This is the second year of CILEx Level 3 academic training to becoming a CILEx lawyer.
  • Content: The course is compliant with the CILEx qualification requirements and includes both substantive law subjects such as contract law and land law; practice subjects such as civil litigation and skills subjects. The course is designed to not only provide an education in core law subjects but also to train the student in how
    to apply the law and develop the skills needed to make them a professional and respected lawyer.
  • Assessment: The assessments are regulated by CILEx, are twice a year and consist mainly of unseen exams. The skills units are assessed by written coursework.

Level 4 / 5 Foundation Degree in Early Childhood

  • Requirements: Applicants must be employed or volunteering in an early years setting for a minimum of 12 hours a week and hold a level 3 qualification in early years, plus either 2 GCSE’s at C and above or equivalent. Students with a Level 4 Childcare qualification can enter at level 5, subject to confirmation by the University of Chichester.

Level 6 BA (Hons) Early Childhood

  • Duration: Two years
  • Requirements: 240 credits (120 at Level 4 and 120 credits at Level 5) in a related subject such as Early Childhood or Teaching and Learning Support. Alternatively, a relevant Foundation Degree in Early Childhood or a relevant Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning – or the International equivalent of 240 credits (120 credits at Level 4 and 120 credits at Level 5).
  • Details: The Top-up BA (Hons) Early Childhood programme explores the subject of children, childhood and families from both a national and global context and range of perspectives, such as philosophical, historical, psychological, sociological, cultural, educational, health, welfare, legal, political and economic. Significant government policy and provision will be critically examined in relation to each module.
  • Content: The units of study will include:

Training Academy for Qualified Childcare Workers

  • Details: The Early Years Workforce Training Academy is a series of short CPD sessions aimed at qualified practitioners working in local settings across Hampshire. These are one-off, two hour-long sessions, which will support workforce development and improve standards and quality across the sector.
  • Content: The series of sessions will explore ways to support and develop children across different age ranges, as well as understanding support roles, and developing positive relationships with parents. The sessions will cover a range of units including:

  • Requirements: There are no entry requirements for this course.
  • Details: This course is a practical hands-on course covering all skills needed for a first aider in the workplace.
  • Content: The course content includes:
  • ■ Action to take in an emergency
    ■ Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
    ■ Care of an unconscious casualty
    ■ Care of wounds and stopping bleeding
    ■ Transportation of a casualty and the 999 procedure
    ■ Recognise common major illness
    ■ Recognise common minor illness
    ■ Record keeping and RIDDOR instructions
  • You will also cover how to administer to a casualty with burns or scalds, fracture, soft tissue damage, shock, eye injuries and irrigation, poisoning and hypoxia.
  • Assessment: You will be given a course handbook and a varied delivery including presentations, case studies and professional discussions. You will be practically assessed on resuscitation, wounds, bleeding and recovery position and will also sit a multiple choice written paper.
  • Progression: You will be able to use your skills and knowledge to become a first aider in your place of work.

Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

  • Details: This qualification is aimed at those who require a better understanding of health and safety within the workplace. The emphasis is on making the employee safe for him/herself, safe for others and capable of identifying potential hazards. “Health and Safety” takes as its starting point the fact that most accidents are attributable to a lack of knowledge or carelessness and that the key to improvement is increased awareness on everybody’s part.
  • Content: The course content will include:

Level 3 Award in Education and Training

  • Requirements: No formal pre-requisites are required. Desirable C grades or equivalent.
  • Details: The course is suitable for those who are interested in a career in further education or have recently started teaching. The course will teach about planning, preparation and basic course design. You will also gain teaching delivery skills by participating in micro-teach sessions.
  • Content: The course is made up of three units:
    ■ Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
    ■ Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training

Level 4 Information, Advice and Guidance

Start date: 30.10.2017 | Day of week: Mon | Time: 15.00-17.00

  • Duration: One year
  • Requirements: You will need GCSE in English and Maths or equivalents and must be working a minimum of 12 hours per week in an advice and guidance role.
  • Details: The course is suitable for those working directly with clients in organisations providing advice and guidance services. Your employment will involve providing specialist advice and guidance to clients, reporting to senior management and networking with associated services and managing, negotiating, training, evaluating and developing the service provision. Students completing
    Level 4 must be aged 18yrs+.
  • Content: Level 4 you must achieve:
    ■ Five mandatory units that include topics such as legislation, interaction, managing caseloads, networking and evaluation of own contribution.
    ■ Option units that are personal to the learners but could include topics such as creating materials, negotiation, facilitate learning in groups and undertaking research.
    Delivery occurs once per week in a mixed Level 3 and Level 4 group, with some taught sessions as well as support workshops.
  • Assessment: You will be assessed through a complete portfolio of evidence gathered from your employment. This might include observations in the work setting, emails, written tasks and annotated documents.
  • Progression: Progress to a higher level in your current employment. Roles such as business link advisor, citizen advice bureau, counselling or on to other
    higher qualifications.
  • Considerations: You will need to be observed in your workplace and be self-motivated. Level 4 learners must be reporting to a senior manager and networking
    with associated services as well as be working for a minimum of 12 hours in an advice and guidance role.

Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

Start date: 18.04.2018 | Day of week: Weds | Time: 17.30-20.30

  • Duration: 54 weeks
  • Requirements: Level 3 award in education and training or equivalent qualification. GCSE C or above in English, Maths or similar, or be working towards these qualifications. A minimum of 100 hours teaching over the duration of the programme.
  • Details: Highly successful student centred practical focused Level 5 programme that equips students to teach in the ever changing climate of education and training. The course includes a variety of approaches and strategies for effective and inclusive teaching, learning and assessment. The course is taught holistically over five terms to develop the combination of essential skills and knowledge to be applied within the sector. A nationally recognised qualification that will provide you with skills to teach in further education. This will provide you with personal skills and attributes for teaching, assessing and supporting learners.
  • Content: Four mandatory units equalling 75 credits plus the three additional units of:
    ■ Action research
    ■ Teaching in a specialist area
    ■ Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area
  • Assessment: Through written assignments, presentations, a minimum of eight observations over the duration of the course and production of a portfolio of reflective journal activities.
  • Progression:
    Further higher educational teaching qualifications

Then the course could be free! Some courses are eligible for funding if you are an unemployed individual, on a state benefit* and you want to enter employment and need the skills from one of our funded courses to achieve this.

* (Income Support (universal credit), Job Seekers, Housing Benefit, Council tax Benefit, Pension Credit, ESA contribution Based, ESA work related activity group. Includes SFA funded courses only. My employer is funding my course – what do I need to do?

You will need to complete an Employer Authorisation form, and return to the Enrolments team, and your employer will be invoiced accordingly.

How do I pay for my course?

You can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card. And for courses over £500 we offer a payment by instalment service to help spread the cost of your course. A £250 minimum deposit is required if you choose to pay by instalments. Please contact the College for more information.
