Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping Level 2

BOOK2-167-P1 | Start date: 09.01.2017 | Duration: 10 weeks | Day of week: Sat | Time: 17:00-19:00

  • DETAILS – The qualification delivers the skills and essential knowledge to manage books effectively. It focuses on developing your bookkeeping and basic accounting skills and includes manual double entry bookkeeping, and associated documents and processes, up to Trial Balance standard.
  • The qualification is suited for those who:
    • Are already working in finance
    • Want to work in bookkeeping in a larger company’s finance department or as an independent professional
    • Are self-employed and need to do their own bookkeeping
  • PROGRESSION – This qualification can be used as a fast track route to the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting and offers where appropriate exemptions to the Foundation Certificate in Accounting.

Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Award in Bookkeeping Level 1

  • REQUIREMENTS – This course is for beginners. There is no need for any prior accounting knowledge or experience, this entry-level course will give you a solid background in single entry bookkeeping.
  • DETAILS – If you wish to improve your work prospects or are a business owner and want to gain the knowledge to do your own books, this Introductory Award in Bookkeeping will equip you with the skills you need.
  • CONTENT – Units covered include:

  • ASSESSMENT – All assessments are practical computer based assessments (CBAs) that are designed to reflect real-life tasks.
  • PROGRESSION – Successful completion of this course provides opportunity to progress onto the intermediate certificate in Bookkeeping, Introductory Award in Computerised Accounting or Introductory Certificate in Accounting. The roles you are qualified to perform after completing this qualification include: Cashier, Clerical Assistant.

Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Certificate Level 2 (Daytime)

Times and dates for courses running from September 2017 will be available from May.

  • REQUIREMENTS – You do not need any qualifications to begin this course, but you must have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, along with an interest in Accounting.
  • DETAILS – If you are new to Accounting then this Association for Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 2 qualification will provide you with an excellent introduction to the subject. During this course you will learn the basic accounting principles, gain experience in using accounting software and gain insight into accounting business environments. Please note that course fees do not include the membership fee to the Association of Accounting Technicians.  This is a requirement of the course and this additional cost should be allowed for.
  • CONTENT – During this course you will study a range of topics, including: • Basic Accounting, Working Effectively in Accounting, Basic Costing and Computerised Accounts.
  • ASSESSMENT – You will be assessed throughout the course by both computer-based exams and assignments.
  • PROGRESSION – Accounting technicians are skilled staff, employed in jobs ranging from clerks to accounts department managers. They are also increasingly required in industry and commerce, so if you have AAT qualifications at any level your career prospects will be extremely good. On successful completion of this course you could also progress on to our Accounting Level 3 Diploma.

Introductory Award in Computerised Accounts Level 1

  • REQUIREMENTS – The course is suitable for:
    – Practicing/part qualified bookkeepers with an existing knowledge of manual bookkeeping.
    – People who are inexperienced and looking to gain relevant knowledge to conduct finance administration duties on a computerised accounting package.
    – Small business owners who want to acquire the basic understanding of how computerised accounting works.
  • DETAILS – Level 1 Computerised Accounts is the introductory level of AAT  Computerised Accounts.   The qualification enables students to become confident in carrying out routine accounting tasks through the use of SAGE.
  • CONTENT – The course covers the two main areas of Computerised Accounts and Spreadsheet Software.
  • ASSESSMENT – The course consists of two units and two computer based assessments
  • PROGRESSION – Offers progression route to Level 2 and 3 computerised accounting qualifications. This course can lead to progression opportunity into the AAT Accounting qualifications

Intermediate Award in Computerised Accounts Level 2

  • CPAC2-167-P1 | Start date: 06.02.2017 | Duration: 6 weeks | Day of week: Mon | Time: 17:00-19:00
  • REQUIREMENTS – The course is suitable for:
    – People who have achieved the Level 1 Award in Computerised Accounts.
    – Unqualified Accounting staff.
    – Those interested in working in bookkeeping in a finance department.
    – Employers looking to up-skill staff.
  • DETAILS – The level 2 Award in Computerised Accounts is the intermediate level of AAT  Computerised Accounts.  The course is for those students who have a desire to get to grips with computerised accounts software and enhance their current knowledge. The course  is designed to enable students to use software independently in the work environment.
  • CONTENT – The course consists of one unit, computerised accounting and  one computer based assessment.
  • ASSESSMENT – The course consists of  one unit, computerised accounting and one computer based assessment.
  • PROGRESSION – Offers progression route to Level 3 computerised accounting qualifications. This course can act as a progression opportunity into the AAT Accounting qualifications, offering exceptions in parts for those continuing their studies.

Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Skills to Run Your Business Level 2

  • REQUIREMENTS – The course is suitable for:– Micro and small business owners looking for basic knowledge of accounting and finance– Those looking to set up and run their own business who are in need of accounting and finance knowledge– Those from an alternative vocational route e.g. Plumbing, Hairdressing
  • DETAILS – The Level 2 Award in Accounting Skills to Run Your Business is designed for those who wish to start their own business and require a basic level of accounting and finance knowledge.
  • CONTENT –The course focuses on  how to manage a budget, cash flow, how to keep your business healthy and provides in-depth knowledge of financial documents. Units covered include: – Budgeting for the small business- planning and control– Managing cash flow and keeping your business healthy– Understanding financial documents– Sole traders and partnerships and limited companies- notification and essential principles

Management Studies Level 3 Diploma

  • Times and dates for courses running from September 2017 will be available from May.
  • REQUIREMENTS – A-C GCSEs including English. Designed for learners in a supervisory position and have access to support and information i.e. business mentor. This could include the voluntary sector. Assignments are work-based and learners should ideally be in employment or have access to an organisation to which they can relate their research and reports.
  • DETAILS – This is a practical course that consists of activities such as group work, discussions, case studies and research. Enhances learners’ chance of promotion within business and improves personal effectiveness. The qualification is both nationally and internationally recognised.The course will require an additional six hours of self-directed study. This will include research for assignments. Learners need to be prepared to put in the work and show a high level of dedication.
  • CONTENT – Three modules:

    Developing as a Manager
    Leadership in Management
    Meeting the requirements of a Manager

  • ASSESSMENT – Assessment will be a written report based on theory and research.
  • PROGRESSION – Develop supervisory/management skills in the workplace before progressing to Level 5 leadership and management qualifications.

  • MGMT7-167-P1 | Delivered by the Solent Leadership Academy – 18 month personalised programme
  • REQUIREMENTS – Sufficient relevant and current management experience is required. Applicants should ideally possess a Level 3 qualification or above plus GCSE English grade A-C in a related subject and have relevant work experience. Those with appropriate managerial experience will also be considered.
  • DETAILS – Develops the learner’s confidence in managing people and systems. Improve chances of promotion within learner’s business. The course will require an additional six hours of self-directed study. This will include research for assignments. Learners need to be prepared to put in the work and show a high level of dedication.
  • CONTENT – The course combines mandatory units such as: Principles of Management and Leadership, Strategic Business Management and Planning, Strategic Decision-making. You will also choose from an optional five units.This is a practical course that consists of activities such as group work, discussions, case studies and research. The course in taught in a computer based room to allow learners to conduct research.
  • ASSESSMENT – Assessment is by a mixture of theory and work-based assignments which may include written reports, research and presentations.

  • REQUIREMENTS – Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management or equivalent. At least two years work experience in a management role at an appropriate level. All applicants will be interviewed.
  • DETAILS – This course is for existing managers who wish to develop their effectiveness in turning organisational strategy into effective operational performance. You will build on your current management and leadership skills to focus on implementing your organisation’s strategy.
  • CONTENT – Units include three mandatory units:

    Developing Strategic Management and Leadership Skills
    Professional Development for Strategic Managers
    Strategic Change Management

    Four other units will be studied.

Then the course could be free! Some courses are eligible for funding if you are an unemployed individual, on a state benefit* and you want to enter employment and need the skills from one of our funded courses to achieve this.

* (Income Support (universal credit), Job Seekers, Housing Benefit, Council tax Benefit, Pension Credit, ESA contribution Based, ESA work related activity group. Includes SFA funded courses only. You must be aged 19-23 on 31 August 2014. You must produce evidence of the benefit in your name when you enrol. Concessions do not apply to higher education courses.

I’m an international student – are my course fees different?

If you have not been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for more than three years before the start of your course (excluding any time spent in full-time education), different course fees may apply to you – please call 01329 815 200 to find out more. Fareham College cannot sponsor Tier 4 student visas.

My employer is funding my course – what do I need to do?

You will need to complete an Employer Authorisation form, and return to the Enrolments team, and your employer will be invoiced accordingly.

How do I pay for my course?

You can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card. And for courses over £500 we offer a payment by instalment service to help spread the cost of your course. A £150 minimum deposit is required if you choose to pay by instalments. Please contact the College for more information.
