YOU could be working at the 2012 Olympics...

Fareham College to breed Olympic students

The official security contractor for the 2012 Olympic Games will be recruiting 6000+ staff to work at the most prominent sporting event of the decade. Through ‘Bridging The Gap’, a unique partnership project between Fareham College and Southampton Football Club, YOU could be one them.

If you enrol on a full-time course at Fareham College you will have the opportunity to undertake a BTEC Award - Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events. The course is one week and covers preparing events, monitoring crowds, responding to illnesses and emergencies, event entry, exit and crowd control.

The course is delivered at both Fareham College and at St Mary’s Training Centre at Southampton Football Club. This means access to real life facilities at St Mary’s Stadium, with the chance of work experience using skills learnt on the course in a match day situation.

After successfully completing the course - Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events - you will be registered on the national security database and guaranteed a job interview with a BSIA member organisation. Chosen Bridging The Gap ‘graduates’ will have the opportunity to assist in the security arrangements for London 2012.
Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events is a great addition to Sport and Uniformed Services courses and for people looking for careers in Stewarding or security.

Uniformed Services lecturer, Adam Gale says “With the security industry experiencing growth as never before, this Project is an excellent opportunity for our students to add not only to their qualifications but also to their experiences. In partnership with Southampton Football Club Training Centre, our course is a high quality product which will enable our students to work at football grounds, concerts, exhibitions and other events – but above all they will have the opportunity to take part in providing control and security for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics. Further links with the Police Counter Terrorism Units are also being forged to give the students a learning experience they will never forget!”
