Peter Jones Enterprise Academy
This month has seen the students present their business ideas in an intensive pitch to members of the College's management team.
Each were bidding for a minimum of £100 each time. They had five minutes to explain their ideas including a detailed financial plan, and five minutes to answer questions. Such questions included, what's their unique selling point, what back-up plan do they have if their initial plans do not work and who they think their market is. Four out of the 10 students who pitched their ideas were successful and these were: Breakfast at Bethany's, J-J-J-Jump, Essence and Candypop.
Breakfast at Bethany's
Bethany Fisher will be selling Grasshopper Porridge, the owners of which visited the group in November, nuts and seeds, smoothies and other healthy items. Her aim is to sell high quality products at affordable prices which are fresh and organic. She is targeting staff and students and any visitors that come onto the campus.
J-J-J-Jump
Abby Bryant-Searl is to launch her own student night for 16-21 year olds. She will issue coloured bands to people who are over 18 so they can buy alcohol. She had a detailed financial plan which demonstrated the costs for bouncers, cost of entry and the amount of money she needed to make to break even. The event will cost £5 for advanced tickets and £7 on the door at Club V in Fareham.
Essence
Holly Cook already has an entrepreneurial mind as she has been selling her homemade organic luxury bath products from home. Her items have received positive feedback and that's why she decided to pitch the idea for the College as she will reach a new target market. Her pitch was geared towards investment for expansion and she has shown success through hosting soap parties. There is low competition in the area and she sells single items up to gift baskets, making them ideal presents.
Candypop
Reem Scott wanted to provide different flavoured popcorn that is freshly made on site. She stated the only place to buy it fresh was the cinema or at fairs. It will be low fat and sell sweet and savoury varieties. Once she is established she will introduce other flavours. The popcorn will be served at lunchtime – the busiest time of the College's day. She knows her product will be successful because out of 300 questionnaires sent out, 55% said they would repeat buy the product.
Ssh-Secret
Tanyong Phoomikhonsan has a keen eye for business and wanted to sell make-up. Her unique selling point is that her prices are low against RRP as she is currently selling items by Benefit and L'oreal. At present, the products are available to buy in the shop next to On-Course Travel and online. She asked for £150 which was received and she is looking forward to a good return of investment with Mother's Day and Easter coming up.
