College joins the Fareham 2012 Legacy
Fareham College has become a partner with Fareham Borough Council for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This partnership has developed a programme of events for Fareham which includes sporting and cultural events and activities and competitions.
Fareham College joined the Get Set network in 2011 because it is demonstrating a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values. These include courage, determination, equality, inspiration, respect, friendship and excellence.
In order to gain membership to the Get Set network, the College had to state what it was doing to match the values. It is currently in the process of reviewing its core values to represent an ethos of learning, development and partnerships. The College has instilled the concepts of respecting and working with each other, striving for excellence and developing the students’ social and personal understanding and knowledge.
The Sports Department are already working on upcoming events and these will include a blind football competition and a cross college sports competition to include two paralympic sports.
At present, many students are currently being trained as Door Supervisors through the Bridging the Gap programme. All students who complete the course are guaranteed an interview to apply for work at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games whilst they work towards a professional security industry qualification.
This course is also open to anyone who is not studying at Fareham College and will be 18 or over by 1st May. It will guarantee an interview to work at the Olympics and enable you to get paid work at other events or working at licensed establishments. A licence will need to be bought in order to work at places and events other than the Olympics. The final four day course will begin on Monday 16 January.
