Former-Fareham College Motor Vehicle student, Harry Embling has joined the Portsmouth Audi car dealership for a three year apprenticeship in car servicing and repairs.
Harry was recommended for the position by Motor Vehicle lecturer, David Richardson who was impressed with Harry’s willingness and enthusiasm during his College course. Harry was invited to interview at the Audi dealership and after just a few days, they phoned to tell him that he had been selected, from a number of candidates, to join their company. Audi was looking for passionate, hardworking candidates to join the business, and it was Harry’s eager and positive attitude, as well as his motor vehicle knowledge, that made him stand out.
Since starting the apprenticeship, Harry has learned many new skills by shadowing the experts at Audi and he is regularly responsible for carrying out car service tasks such as oil changes and water level checks. He’s also frequently tasked with un-packaging and inspecting brand new cars that arrive at the showroom. During his college course, Harry was able to take apart car engines to explore and learn about different parts, how they work and where they go which is knowledge that has helped him tremendously at Audi.
Harry knew that he wanted a career in Motor Vehicle Engineering before he started College, and he was considering either joining a car dealership or working with vehicles in the Navy. He is very much enjoying his apprenticeship so far and hopes to continue working at Audi as a fully qualified technician in the future.
When asked what advice he would give a school leaver, Harry said, “Make sure you show enthusiasm and passion in everything you do whether it is a lecture, a practical session, an interview or a job. Also, build a good relationship with your mentor or lecturer. They are there to help and guide you, and you should try to learn as much from them as you can.”
Well done Harry and good luck in your apprenticeship.
