Progression

What are the progression routes for students?

Throughout your son or daughter’s time at Fareham College they need to think about what they plan to do when their course is completed.

Primary options for students are to go directly into work, apply to university or take a progression course at College. Regardless of the option they wish to pursue they will have access to a wealth of support to help them to achieve their aspirations and goals.

For support with progression and careers advice we have support from Hampshire Connexions. These staff can give students information, advice and guidance with health, leisure, education, employment and training issues.

Internal Progression

All of our courses are structured to enable each student to progress upon completion. For some students this, may mean starting new courses or progressing to the next level of a specific qualification within the College.

At all stages of progression each student will be able to access support, advice and guidance to ensure that their progression route meets their individual development needs.

Employment

Fareham College has numerous links with local employers relevant to course areas being studied.

Staff can offer students advice and pointers for employment routes. The College also runs Employers Engagement Activities and Events where students can speak to companies and staff about careers.

We also offer workshops to support CV writing and interview preparation with specific advice and guidance available on campus from Hampshire Connexions as well as on-site visits and demonstrations from local employers.

Higher Education

Fareham College has established excellent links with local universities who provide our students with a wealth of information and support to Higher Education.

Students applying for a university course generally follow a BTEC National Diploma course (equates tothree A-levels), a range of A-levels or the Advanced Diploma.

An increasing number of students progress from a BTEC Level 2 First Diploma on to a BTEC National Diploma and then on to university.

The College runs Higher Education Events throughout the year to provide students with information and support in making their decisions and application to university.

We also offer parents advice and information at the HE Event which will take place in September 2010. At this Event issues relating to finance and cost will be provided as well as the opportunity to meet local university representatives.

Students who intend to apply to University need to consider their progression plans in Year 1 and should ideally begin work on the application in the final term of Year 1 to enable them to have a competitive advantage over other applicants.
