Gina Bailey
Vice-Chair of the Corporation
Gina joined the Corporation in April 2003 as the nomination of Fareham Borough Council. She is currently the Solicitor to the Council and is the Principal Legal Adviser responsible for the provision of all legal services to the Authority.
Originally a Law Graduate from University College, London, Gina was admitted as a Solicitor in 1981 and worked initially in private practice before joining the Public Sector in 1984. She went on to gain a Master's Degree in European Management and Employment Law in 1995 and was awarded the CIPFA Advanced Diploma in Business and Financial Management in 1999.
Gina has an extensive background in the Public Service having worked for local authorities for 20 years. She was elected as the Vice-Chair of the Corporation in April 2008 and, in that role, has overall responsibility for the activities of the Search Committee. In addition, Gina also serves on the Finance and Resources Committee.
Steve Carter
Governor
Governors were delighted to appoint Steve to the Board in December 2009.
He is currently the Director of Finance at Southampton Solent University and in this capacity brings invaluable accounting/finance and audit expertise to the Board.
In view of his extensive and commercial experience in Statutory reporting, internal audit and risk management, he currently serves on the Audit Committee and was elected Chair of this committee in March 2010.
Paul Fielon
Governor
Paul was appointed to the Corporation in December 2010 and is currently the Vice-Principal at the Henry Cort Community College, a local secondary school.
In his role as Vice-Principal Paul has responsibility for curriculum development, pastoral team overview and student tracking and data.
As a result, he has been invited to serve on the Students, Curriculum and Quality Committee of the Corporation.
Tim Goodhead
Chair of the Corporation and Vice-Chair of Finance & Resources Committee
Governors were delighted to appoint Tim to the Board in February 2007 and continue the link previously established with the University of Portsmouth. Until recently, Tim was the Dean of the Faculty of Technology and, as a result, brings to the Board considerable experience of resource management in an academic environment.
As the Dean he was ultimately responsible for a sizeable budget, resources, teaching quality and research of the Departments within his Faculty. He has significant experience of both the further and higher education sectors and has taught on an entire spectrum of courses ranging from BTEC National to PhD research programmes.
In addition he is also a Chartered Surveyor with an academic subject specialism of Property Management and Development. These skills and expertise will be invaluable to the Board as it enters a new phase of the College's development. Tim was elected as the Chairman of the Corporation in September 2009. In this role he will be a member of all Corporation Committees, except the Audit and Search Committees.
Carl Groves
Principal & Chief Executive
After gaining experience as a Director, Assistant Principal, and Vice-Principal (in two further education colleges) Carl Groves was appointed to the post of Principal & Chief Executive of Fareham College in October 2002.
Carl graduated from Southampton University in 1979 with an honours degree in Social Policy, and subsequently completed a postgraduate management training programme with the Nationwide Building Society. After gaining experience in all aspects of building society work and completing a commercial management qualification, Carl decided to return to university to qualify as a secondary/tertiary teacher.
In mid-career Carl also gained a Master of Arts Degree in Education and a Master of Business Administration Degree in General Management, through 6 years of part-time study at Southampton and Portsmouth Universities.
During his 15 years as a further education teacher, Carl specialised in the teaching of economics and business studies. His first post in further education was as a Teacher of Economics & Business Studies at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College (in Hampshire). He then went on to The Isle of Wight College where he gained experience in a wide variety of roles - from Lecturer to Acting Principal. Prior to taking up his current post Carl was Vice-Principal at City of Bath College where he was responsible for Curriculum, Quality, Staff Development, and ICT in addition to being the sole Deputy Principal.
As Principal & Chief Executive, Carl is required to serve on the Board of the Fareham College Corporation and on its four Committees. He also serves on a wide range of external bodies including the Hampshire Principals Group, the Fareham & Gosport Heads and Principals Group and he was elected Chair of the Fareham Local Children's Partnership in June 2010.
Carl is married with 3 children.
Derek Hart
Chair of Students, Curriculum and Quality Committee
The Board formally approved Derek's appointment to the Corporation in April 2008.
Derek has extensive experience in the delivery and management of education and training and has held several relevant posts, including Director of Training at HMS Collingwood. He was also the Head of Training (South West) and the Head of Partnering Development at Flagship Training Ltd before going on to become Director of his own management training consultancy – 'Charismatters'.
In April 2009 he was appointed as the Bursar (Business Manager)/Clerk to the Governors of a local private school but has since returned to dedicating his time to 'Charismatters' on a full-time basis. With this experience he has been invited to serve on the Students, Curriculum and Quality Committee and was elected as Chair to this Committee in February 2010.
In addition, he is the Equality and Diversity Champion for the Board and the Safeguarding Nominee. He is also the Fareham and Gosport 14-19 Consortium Representative for the Corporation and is the Chair of the Academic Standards Committee of the College in his capacity as Chair of the SC&Q Committee.
Jo Howard
Support Staff Member
Jo was appointed as the Support Staff Member in December 2008.
She has worked at the College for approximately 12 years and, as Admissions and Progression Co-ordinator, working within the Student Services Team her key focus is the welfare and support of students.
She currently serves on the Audit Committee.
Russell Kew
Governor
Russell was appointed to the Board in December 2010 and is currently the Chief Executive of Wightlink Ferries. As Chief Executive of a medium sized business, and, as the parent of a student studying at the College he brings a valuable dual-perspective to the work of the Board.
Russell's key responsibilities include the responsibility for financial performance, compliance of statutory regulations and the management, motivation and development of circa 700 employees. With this experience in mind, Russell has been invited to serve on the Finance and Resources Committee of the Corporation.
Lesley Munro
Governor
Lesley had previously established links with the College through the development of the Fareham College Leg Clinic and was appointed to the Board in December 2009.
As Locality Manager for Fareham and Gosport community hospitals, her involvement with the students along with her significant public sector experience provide a valuable insight to the Corporation.
With this experience in mind, she has been invited to serve on the Students, Curriculum and Quality Committee.
Nicola Nageon de Lestang
Teaching Staff Member and Vice-Chair of SC&Q Committee
Since joining the College in 2003, Nicola has undertaken a variety of curriculum-based roles. These have included Acting Senior Tutor which involved assisting the Faculty Director in the smooth running of the new Sixth Form Centre.
Nicola brings to the Board experience of working in both business and education and she has previously been a Company Director and an Acting Principal. The diversity of these roles means she is able to bring a broad and valuable perspective to the work of the Board.
Nicola was appointed to the Board in September 2009, following her nomination by the Teaching Staff, and she has been invited to serve on the Students, Curriculum and Quality Committee.
John Westbrook
Governor
John Westbrook qualified as a teacher in 1956 and, during his career, taught at both Secondary and Primary levels and was also Head of Year at St Anne's Secondary School in Fareham. In retirement, John is a member of the William Price Charitable Trust and, prior to the changes to the Instrument of Government, it was as the Nomination of the Trust that he served on the Governing Body.
He is currently Churchwarden of Holy Trinity Church Fareham and is also Chair of Governors for Oak Meadow Primary School, a Church of England controlled school in Fareham. John was appointed in December 2005 and is serving his second term of office. He currently serves on the Audit Committee.
Sarah Wills
Governor
Sarah was appointed to the Board in March 2010 as an Independent/Business Governor. She is currently employed by Zurich Insurance as a Legal Entity Accountant and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.
Sarah has a Masters' Degree in Aerospace Engineering and her employment history includes HM Armed Forces and retail management.
Sarah brings invaluable financial/accounting expertise to the Board and has been invited to serve on the Finance and Resources Committee of the Corporation.
