are:
Students looking to carry on with their education after
16 don’t have to follow the traditional A Level path.
It is a myth that universities only want students with A-levels.
The facts are that universities accept both A-level and National
Diploma Qualifications for university entry. Our advice to
young people seeking to progress to university is to choose
the type of qualification that is most suited to your learning
style and study interests, and this will give you the best
chance of achieving a university place.
Vocational qualifications provide students with knowledge
and skills that are related to the world or work. Depending
on the level of award achieved, vocational qualifications
provide young people with opportunities for direct progression
to any of the following:
- full time employment
- a university degree course
- further job specific training
(e.g. an apprenticeship)
BTEC Diplomas are a great choice as they are widely recognised
throughout the UK, and the Level 3 BTEC qualifications are
equivalent to 3 A Levels. The difference is that the courses
not only provide students with in-depth practical skills
and knowledge of the subject, but they can also study something
that they really enjoy.
Fareham College excels in many vocational subjects, which
meet university entrance requirements, as well as the skills
needs of employers. So once students have achieved the vocational
qualification, they’ve got loads of options to choose
from.
Past students have
gone straight on to university, whilst others have secured
a job that is directly related to their studies. And because
their qualification is vocational as opposed to academic,
employers will know that they’ve got an understanding
of the practical skills that they’re looking for.
