What is an Access to Higher Education Diploma?

An Access to Higher Education Diploma is aimed at learners who want to follow a new career path. They are Level 3 qualifications, completed within a year and enabling learners to progress to university and study at the undergraduate level. There is the option to achieve this entirely online or attend college classes.

Which Diplomas can I study?

Health Professionals, which will prepare learners to progress to a degree in a relevant health profession, including, but not limited to, social work, paramedic science, psychology, nursing, dental nursing or teaching. This is offered online (there are 4 start times each year) and in the classroom (daytime or evening) on Tuesdays and Thursdays during term time.

Midwifery, which will prepare learners to progress to a degree in midwifery. This is offered online (there are 4 start times each year) and in the classroom (daytime or evening) on Tuesdays and Thursdays during term time.

Nursing will prepare learners to progress to a degree in either Adult, Children, Mental Health or Learning Disability Nursing. This is offered online (there are 4 start times each year) and in the classroom (daytime or evening) on Tuesdays and Thursdays during term time.

Science, which will prepare learners to progress to a relevant degree, including, but not limited to, biology, biochemistry, forensic science, marine biology, midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy and radiography. This is offered online (there are 4 start times each year) and in the classroom (daytime only) on Tuesdays and Thursdays during term time.

Undergraduate study programmes at Fareham College are significantly cheaper than those offered at traditional Universities, which charge up to £9,250. At Fareham College our study programmes cost up to a maximum of £6,000, BA(Hons) qualification, so you can ensure you are getting value for money.

The Bishopsfield Road Campus is located a 10-minute walk from Fareham Train Station with local bus routes feeding Lee-on-the-Solent for CEMAST and CETC. There is also ample parking on site.

Progression Programmes

Higher Education programmes at Fareham College are designed to support progression from a Level 3 or a T Level course to a complete undergraduate qualification and beyond. Many students continue to pursue Masters or PhDs following their time here, a direct result of outstanding teaching and personalised support. Furthermore, students in certain study programmes are supported to enter the second or third year of complementary courses at partner Universities, allowing them to ‘top-up’ their qualifications.

How much will it cost to study?

UK residents aged 19 or over may have to pay their own fees but can apply for the Adult Advanced Learner Loan. Once the Access to Higher Education Diploma and the degree have been completed the outstanding balance of the Adult Advanced Learner Loan is written off.

University Partnerships

Many of our higher education programmes are validated through leading universities across the region ensuring students benefit from access to course-specific resources and high-level research. Certain programmes also offer a progression route, such as direct entry to the second year of an undergraduate qualification following a HNC or further study with a Masters or PhD.

Please note: We will accept a student transfer from a Higher Education course provided by a UK Higher Education provider to the same/different Higher Education course provided by Fareham College with the appropriate prior attainment. This will be reviewed in line with our Recognised Prior Learning Policy. Likewise, Fareham College will provide evidence of any Higher Education study undertaken, or a level of achievement on a course prior to leaving, to any student transferring from a Fareham College Higher Education course to another UK Higher Education provider.
