The Top-up BA (Hons) Early Childhood programme explores the subject of children, childhood and families from a national and global context, and a range of perspectives such as philosophical, historical, psychological, sociological, cultural, educational, health, welfare, legal, political and economic. Significant government policy and provision will be critically examined in relation to each module.
The units of study will include:
- Independant project
- Leading professional practice
- The digital child
- Crime and childhood
- Adventure education.
This course is delivered through presentations, portfolio, reports, exams and essays.

240 credits (120 at Level 4 and 120 credits at Level 5) in a related subject such as Early Childhood or Teaching and Learning Support. Alternatively, a relevant Foundation Degree in Early Childhood or a relevant Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning or the international equivalent of 240 credits (120 credits at Level 4 and 120 credits at Level 5).
Graduate Practitioner Competencies
If you already have a ‘full and relevant’ level 3 qualification and Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English, you may be eligible to apply for Graduate Practitioner Competencies, which provides an opportunity to strengthen and enhance practice, skills and knowledge.

You may wish to continue your professional and academic development. Routes available include Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) or a Masters in Early Years Professional Practice. Should you wish to consider EYTS you must have GCSE (grade 5 or above) or equivalent in Maths, English and Science to undertake this route. You could also apply to complete a SCITT programme.

Tuition fees are payable for all Higher Education courses and the fee for this course is displayed in the information above. This can be paid for in a number of ways:

HE Loans are easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000.
If you applying for our Level 4 Creative Enterprise Diploma, there may be no fees to pay if you are under 19 at the start of the course.
