Level 2 Women's Hairdressing - Diploma

  • Structure: We will be able to discuss the qualifications that are available at interview. Awards, Certificates and Diplomas vary in content.
  • Requirements: This course requires a good level of dexterity for application, literacy for communication and willingness to explore new things.
  • Details: The Level 2 qualification in hairdressing may include a number of units:
    ■ Working in the hair industry
    ■ Following health & safety practice
    ■ Client consultation
    ■ Shampooing and conditioning hair
    ■ Promoting product and services to clients
    ■ Cutting hair
    ■ Colouring and lightening hair
    ■ Perming and neutralising hair
    ■ The art of dressing hair
    ■ Creating an image, based on a theme
    ■ Displaying stock to promote sales
    ■ Salon reception
  • Content: An element of home study will be expected to be able to complete written assignments needed to support an understanding technical of theory which will
    then be put into practice carrying out practical tasks.
  • Assessment: The course will be assessed through the use of written task, practical tasks and oral questioning. Practical assessments will be completed at Fareham College training salon and in our commercial salon, ‘Salon 141’, on paying clients.
  • Progression: This will provide a seamless progression on to our Level 3 qualification in hairdressing.

  • Requirements: This course requires a good level of dexterity for application, literacy for communication and willingness to explore new things. You will need to have completed a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing. There will be an interview and skills test prior to enrolment.
  • Details: The Level 3 qualification in women’s hairdressing may include a number of units:
    ■ Monitor procedures to safety control work
    operations
    ■ Promote additional services/products
    ■ Provide consultation services
    ■ Creatively cut hair
    ■ Colour hair using a variety of techniques
    ■ Provide colour correction services
    ■ Dress long hair

  • Structure: We will be able to discuss the qualifications that are available at interview. Awards, Certificates and Diplomas vary in content.
  • Requirements: This course requires a good level of dexterity for application, literacy for communication and willingness to explore new things.
  • Details: The Level 2 qualification in barbering includes some of the following units:
    ■ Cutting hair using barbering techniques
    ■ Cutting facial hair to shape using basic techniques
    ■ Drying and finishing men’s hair
    ■ Creating basic patterns in hair
    ■ Promoting products and services
  • Content: An element of home study will be expected to be able to complete written assignments needed to support an understanding of technical theory, which will then be put into practice carrying out practical tasks.
  • Assessment: You will be assessed through the use of written tasks, practical tasks and oral questioning. Practical assessments will be completed at Fareham

  • Requirements: This course requires a good level of dexterity for application, literacy for communication and willingness to explore new things. You will need to have completed a Level 2 qualification in barbering, attend an interview and complete a skills test prior to enrolment.
  • Details: The Level 3 qualification in barbering includes some of the following units:
    ■ Cutting men’s hair to create a variety of looks
    ■ Cutting facial hair to create a variety of looks
    ■ Colouring hair to create a variety of looks
    ■ Creative hair design
    ■ Scalp massage
    ■ Promoting and selling products and services to clients
    ■ All of the skills required to become an advanced
    barber

Funding Information

Applying for a course that has a concession?

Then the course could be free! Some courses are eligible for funding if you are an unemployed individual, on a state benefit* and you want to enter employment and need the skills from one of our funded courses to achieve this.

* (Income Support (universal credit), Job Seekers, ESA contribution Based, ESA work related activity group. Includes SFA funded courses only. You must be aged 19-23 on 31 August 2014. You must produce evidence of the benefit in your name when you enrol. Concessions do not apply to higher education courses.

How do I find out what the fee for my course is?

The fee for your chosen course is listed in the individual course sections accessed on this page. It includes the cost of tuition plus the cost of any exam and registration fee charged by the exam board (if applicable).

Are there any other costs I may have to pay?

Some courses may require you to pay extra costs for things such as course books, trips, and specialist equipment or clothing. If your course has any additional costs, you will be notified before enrolment. You can also contact the College on call 01329 815 200 to find out more.

I’m an international student – are my course fees different?

If you have not been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for more than three years before the start of your course (excluding any time spent in full-time education), different course fees may apply to you – please call 01329 815 200 to find out more. Fareham College cannot sponsor Tier 4 student visas.

My employer is funding my course – what do I need to do?

You will need to complete an Employer Authorisation form, and return to the Enrolments team, and your employer will be invoiced accordingly.

How do I pay for my course?

You can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card. And for courses over £500 we offer a payment by instalment service to help spread the cost of your course. A £250 minimum deposit is required if you choose to pay by instalments. Please contact the College for more information.
