Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 9-4 including Science, English and Maths.


This course is aimed at those who want to acquire the more advanced engineering competences needed to progress to the workplace. The course consists of hands-on practical skills and the theories that underpin a range of engineering practices and processes. Our full time courses are designed to help you achieve your ambitions whether your goal is to go on to a higher level of study or whether you are looking to start a job. English and mathematics are an essential part of your studies and will help you succeed on your course. These subjects will also help you to develop confidence and are key employability skills that recruiting employers look for.

The course includes the following units:

■ Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements

■ Working efficiently and effectively in engineering

■ Using and communicating technical information

■ Conducting business improvement activities

■ Wiring and testing electrical equipment & circuits

■ Preparing and using lathes for turning operations

■ Preparing & using milling machines

■ Producing components by rapid prototyping techniques (3D Printing)

■ Producing CAD Models (drawings) using a CAD system

■ General fabrication and welding applications

Next Steps

Most of our students choose to progress to a Level 3 Engineering course at CEMAST. Completing this course will also demonstrate to employers that you have the potential to successfully follow a craft or technician Apprenticeship.
