Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 9-3 including English and Maths, or a full Level 1 qualification with a ‘stepping stone’ English and Maths qualification.

Details

This course will teach you the foundation of site carpentry to help you gain the skills and knowledge needed to work on-site.

You will learn through a combination of practical lessons in our fully-equipped workshops, and classroom sessions to reinforce the hands-on techniques you will develop. You will also benefit from excellent English and maths lessons to ensure you have all the entry requirements needed to progress to a Level 3 course.

The skills you will learn include:

  • Care and use of hand and power tools
  • First fix – building floors and roofs
  • First fix – building door frames, wall partitions
  • and stairs
  • Second fix work – fitting doors, skirting boards
  • Health and safety
  • Kitchen fitting
  • Safe use of static machines

Where available, we will always get you involved in live or community projects to give you real-life work experience.

Next Steps

If you do well on this course, you can progress to a Level 3 course in the Construction department or one of our Carpentry Apprenticeships.
