This qualification is useful for anyone who would like to develop your use of counselling skills for use in either work or a personal capacity. This qualification will introduce you to the use of counselling in everyday work and life. You will also learn and develop knowledge of some of the approaches that underpin counselling skills.
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills, you are required to successfully complete 4 mandatory units on the online E-Assessor system. There is also a requirement to submit a skills log which will be completed during a skills session that occurs onsite.
During the course you will complete the following units:
Unit 01 Using counselling skills
During this unit you will have an opportunity to identify and practise a range of skills used when participating in a counselling skills interaction. As part of this unit you are required to complete a skills session onsite at the Bishopsfield Road campus where you will be able to demonstrate the core skills used in a helping relationship.
Unit 02 Introduction to counselling skills theories
In this unit you will be introduced to the key elements of the main theoretical approaches to counselling.
Unit 03 Diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills
In this unit you will be introduced to the concepts of diversity and ethics and their importance in the use of counselling skills.
Unit 04 Counselling skills and personal development
In this unit you will have an opportunity to reflect on personal and future development and identify potential sources of support.

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. This course is aimed at students over 19.
Learners will require access to a suitable tablet/computer and access to the internet. There is a skills session that will occur onsite.
Please note you can only study one online course at a time. Upon successful completion, you can then apply for a new programme
Level 3 counselling qualification.

Will I have to pay fees?
School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies.
If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £27,295. Find more information on Advanced Learner Loans on our website.
If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived:
- Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Income Support
You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course).
* If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement.
