One year – Full time
Five GCSEs at grade 9-3 including English and Maths, or a full Level 1 qualification with a ‘stepping stone’ English and Maths qualification. Experience in a childcare setting is desirable. You will need to work well as part of a team and also independently. You will have a passion for caring for children and be able to interact with children in group sessions at College and on placement to gather vital experience. You will also need to be a good listener, have the ability to reflect on your own practice and be willing to participate in class presentations.
This course is designed to support your development, knowledge, understanding and skills when caring for and supporting the learning and development of children aged 0–11 years. It comprises six new units that will be delivered throughout the year.
You will complete tasks such as creative and physical activity plans for practical sessions such as ‘Teddy Tots’, in which you work with toddlers from our on-site nursery. You will also complete a placement within both an Early Years and a primary setting, where you will keep a professional skills record. You will be involved in exciting and practical experiences as well as completing projects, making leaflets, posters, producing presentations and writing assignments on important childcare issues such as children’s development, child care legislation and nutrition.
All units for this qualification will be internally assessed using an online portfolio of evidence, assignment tasks, observations as well as some controlled assessments.
This qualification will support your progress on to Level 3 qualifications across a number of sectors, such as Early Years’ Educator, Supporting Teaching and Learning, and Children and Young People. It includes significant transferable knowledge for the health and social care sector.
