Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 9-5 including Science, English and Maths. You will also require a full Level 2 qualification in Marine Engineering.


Building on the knowledge gained from the Level 2 qualification, this course provides further practical skills and experience required to progress to an Apprenticeship or further study (e.g. Higher National Certificate/Diploma or an Engineering degree).

This course covers a variety of topics and allows you to study particular areas in-depth, including:

■ Fault finding
■ Maintenance
■ Diagnostics
■ Marine equipment repairs

Assessment is a combination of exams and assignments.

Next Steps

Students can progress into employment or on to an Apprenticeship within the leisure or deep sea marine sector. Those looking to continue their marine education can progress through a partnership with Warsash Marine Academy where they can study up to HND or degree level.

Candidates who have secured sponsorship with an employer can carry out a sea phase of training before returning ashore to complete an HND in Marine Engineering.
