The objectives of this qualification is to gain knowledge and understanding of autism, including how to adopt a positive approach to supporting individuals with autism.
During this qualification learners will be taught:
- Current legislative framework relating to individuals with autism and how different theories have developed over time.
- How to support and manage transitions for individuals with autism.
- The range of therapeutic interventions and support available for individuals with autism and co-occurring conditions.
- How to support communication and social interaction for individuals with autism.
- How to develop an understanding of how individuals with autism may be vulnerable and the support worker’s role and responsibilities relating to safeguarding according to legislative requirements.

Although there are no formal entry requirements for this course, due to the nature and course delivery of distance learning we require all applicants to hold a minimum of English Literacy Level 1 or equivalent. It is also useful to have completed a level 2 course as preparation.
Learners should also be aged 19+.
This course is free for adults aged over 24 years who do not already hold a Level 3 qualification.
Please note you can only study one online course at a time. Upon successful completion, you can then apply for a new programme.

Will I have to pay fees?
School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies.
If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £27,295. Find more information on Advanced Learner Loans on our website.
If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived:
- Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Income Support
You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course).
* If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement.
