Part Time:

Level 3 Counselling Skills and Theory – Award

Course Details

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be 19 years old or over and will need to complete a pre-enrolment telephone interview. Students must hold a relevant Level 2 certificate in counselling.

Our Level 3 award in counselling skills and theory aims to develop the skills and knowledge gained at Level 2. This qualification enables learners to work towards becoming a reflective counselling practitioner by considering theories of human development, self-awareness, supervision and issues of difference and diversity. It also provides knowledge and understanding of the core theories that underpin counselling and addresses the nature of psychological problems and how they may be approached. The specialist skills and knowledge gained in this qualification will be applicable in a range of working contexts. It will enable learners to understand the need for a firm grasp of a coherent theoretical approach to counselling or supporting others.

The course requires four mandatory units to be studied: developing and practising counselling skills, understanding different approaches to the use of counselling skills, working ethically in helping relationships and understanding the importance of self-development in relation to helping others.

This course is assessed through personal journals, a portfolio of work and essays, and practical demonstration.

On successful completion of the course, students can apply for various professional diplomas/degrees in counselling.

Due to the nature of the course family members cannot enrol together. We encourage and welcome applicants from all walks of life with a variety of experiences.

This course involves learning about sensitive issues, so if you are currently experiencing personal problems it is advised that you delay joining this course until a later date. There will be a lot of written work so students will need to have a good level of English – this may be assessed at interview.
