Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for learners working towards an engineering manufacture Apprenticeship at Level 3 in England or Wales.


This qualification is for learners who are undertaking a SEMTA Apprenticeship and wish to progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship. It involves the skills and knowledge needed for occupations in Engineering Maintenance including the ability to organise work and identify and prevent problems. NVQs are based on national occupational standards, which the learner must meet to be competent in a particular task. The achievement of NVQs will encourage an employee to value their contribution to the workplace, and it will develop their skills and potential within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge in one or more of a wide variety of Engineering Maintenance activities including:

  • mechanical
  • electrical
  • electronic
  • fluid power
  • engineered systems
  • services maintenance
  • lift servicing
  • lift repair
  • escalator repair and service
  • communication electronics
  • servicing medical equipment
  • instrumentation and control


The course will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence and written and verbal assessments.
