Five GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English and Maths, or a full Level 2 qualification with a merit profile and grades 9-4 in GCSE English and Maths.
This course builds on your knowledge of basic science and develops an insight into more specialist areas and laboratory practices. Alongside developing your core knowledge of biology and chemistry, you will also study and complete units in laboratory organisation and practice, scientific principles and methods, crime scene investigations, forensic science applications, genetics, microbiology, physiology and medical applications, physics techniques, and other aspects of biological, chemical and physical science.
In addition, all our courses will teach you how to collect and evaluate data effectively, how to investigate facts, use deduction and produce clear, engaging reports to reflect and present your findings. The course is designed to prepare you for work at technician level in scientific, medical and forensic laboratories. Assessment is largely by coursework.
The course is for students who wish to go on to university to study forensics, medical science or biological sciences at a higher level. You could go on to become a scientist or researcher, or work in a medical field such as nursing or medicine.
