Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 9-5 including Science, English and Maths, or a Level 2 qualification in Engineering, with a minimum M/D profile, a verifiable equivalent qualification and a satisfactory reference from a previous employer or training provider.


This course will provide you with an introduction to the skills and knowledge required to progress to an Apprenticeship, or further study such as the HNC/HND or an engineering degree.

The specialist topics allow you to study particular areas in depth, including:

■ Electrical technology
■ Electronic circuit manufacture
■ Electronic measurement and testing
■ Radio and RADAR principles
■ Analogue and digital electronics
■ Microcontroller systems for engineers
■ Electronic devices and circuits
■ Electrical printed circuit design and manufacture
■ Programmable logic controllers
■ Electronic measurement and testing

Assessment is largely by coursework, plus three externally examined modules.

Next Steps

This qualification will demonstrate to employers that you have valuable skills in the electrical engineering field. Students can find employment at a junior level, begin a Higher Apprenticeship programme or continue learning within Higher Education.
