Environmental sustainability and environmental science are growing sectors of the UK economy and suit students interested in science, geography, maths and conservation. As a result of national and international legislation seeking to protect the natural world, reduce the impact of climate change and manage the shift to low-carbon and renewable alternatives, jobs in these sectors look set to expand rapidly.
During this course, you will learn the basics of environmental science, completing nine units in the first year and nine units in the second year. This will include an introduction to global sustainable goals, community advocation and how to initiate local change, and working with others to seek action.
Other study topics include energy management legislation and international agreements, informatics, theory and practice, and sustainable business development, including statistics. You can also expect to learn more about the environment in greater detail, understanding its dynamic character and delicate balances and the impact humans have. You will explore the changes in the atmospheric conditions and the processes that have sculptured the Earth’s surface and brought about the rise and fall of plant and animal species over millions of years.
You will carry out a research project to summarise your work, compile a literature review and present your findings.

Progression could include an intermediate/degree Apprenticeship, studying further at university in the field of Environmental Science/Sustainability or entering directly into employment.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies.

If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived:

You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course).
* If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement.
