ESports (electronic sports) is competitive video gaming. Tournaments usually consist of amateur or professional gamers competing against one another. This is an innovative two year full-time course providing an in-depth study of the sector, supporting progression to Higher Education and employment in the fast-growing ESports sector.
During this course, as well as developing an understanding of key areas of the industry such as: business and enterprise, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, health and wellbeing, coaching, analysis, leadership, events management, shoutcasting, video production, live-streamed broadcasting, performance psychology and nutrition for ESports players, you will gain an understanding and appreciation of the positive benefits of ESports.
These include the development of teamwork, communication, leadership skills, confidence building, decision making, reaction times, reading comprehension skills, cyber skills, dexterity and concentration.
Your study will be based mainly in our state-of-the-art ESports and gaming facility, and will include elements from different disciplines in sport, media and business, alongside expert teachers in ESports, gaming and computing. You will undertake significant work-based experience with a local employer and have the opportunity to participate in a range of live experiences such as visits and competitions.
You will study seven units in year 1:
- Introduction to ESports
- ESports skills, strategies and analysis
- Enterprise and entrepreneurship in the ESports industry
- Health, wellbeing and fitness for ESports players
- Video production
- Games design
- Nutrition for ESports performance.
You will study seven units in year 2:
- ESports events
- Producing an ESports brand
- Shoutcasting
- Corporate social responsibility in sport
- Sports and ESports law and legislation
- Launching your ESports enterprise.

Five GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English and Maths, or a full Level 2 qualification with a Merit profile and grades 9-4 in GCSE English and Maths.
On completion of this programme, you could progress to Higher Education to gain a degree within the ESport, Sport, Business and Leisure industries. Alternatively, as you will have gained a range of skills throughout the programme that are recognised by employers and you may wish to pursue your careers via work in a variety of sectors, including a wide range of roles within the ESports industry, or undertake an Apprenticeship.

Will I have to pay fees?
School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies.
If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. Find more information on Advanced Learner Loans on our website.
If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived:
- Universal Credit
- Income Support
You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course).
* If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement.
