Five GCSEs at grade 9-5 including Science, English and Maths, or a Level 2 qualification in Engineering, with a minimum M/D profile, a verifiable equivalent qualification and a satisfactory reference from a previous employer or training provider.
This course allows you to develop a creative approach to analysis and problem solving with regard to the design, manufacture and maintenance of mechanical systems.
Our workshops are equipped with a wide range of testing equipment, machine tools, new CNC lathe and milling machines, a 3D printer and access to CAD software. Specialist topics allow you to study particular areas in depth, including:
Micro-controller systems for engineers
Principles and applications of fluid mechanics
Calculus to solve engineering problems
This course introduces you to the skills and knowledge required to progress to an Apprenticeship, or further study such as the HNC/HND or an engineering degree.
Assessment is a combination of exams and assignments, plus three externally examined modules.
This qualification will demonstrate that you have significant knowledge and skill working in a mechanical engineering environment. Students can advance to an Apprenticeship, Higher Education or employment where specific practical training will be given. Many successful students choose to study their HNC/HND within an Apprenticeship programme.
