Course Details

Entry Requirements

No prior railway experience is required. Maths and English assessment and prior attainment are required for the Level 3 courses. Initial numeracy and literacy assessment are required for combined Level 3, 20-week programme.


The UK railway is more popular than ever. Carrying 50% more passengers than 10 years ago. Freight movements have increased 13% since 2009. Currently, more money is being invested in improving the railway infrastructure since the Victorian era.

Maintaining the existing assets together with delivering substantial capacity improvements needed for future growth and demand. With an annual shortfall of 69,000 rail engineers, the industry needs new, talented & skilled people to make up the investment. Fareham College Rail Academy works with industry specialists you are able to gain all the entry competencies to start your exiting career working on the Rail Infrastructure.


All units on the main programme are assessed through written assignments and phase tests for which you will be able to achieve pass, merit and distinction grades.

On course completion candidates will be put forward for a network rail approved medical and drugs and alcohol screening as part of registering for their Sentinel/PTS card. For specific information on this candidates should discuss with their personal tutor prior to commencing the course.
