Level 3 Course

Technical Diploma in Childcare & Education (Early Years Educator)

Two Years – Full time

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English and Maths, or a full Level 2 qualification with a merit profile and grades 9-4 in GCSE English and Maths. Experience in a childcare setting is desirable.

This advanced course will build and develop your knowledge of the all-round care and development of children from birth to seven years. You will need to work well as part of a team, be a good listener and have a passion for caring for children. You will gain extensive practical experience, and will be required to complete a minimum of 800 hours over two years in at least three different placement settings.

Throughout your placements, you will be expected to deliver activities you have created, gather evidence in a practice skills log and make a resource file to support children’s maths and literacy skills. You will also take part in practical sessions at College called ‘Teddy Tots’, in which you will work with toddlers from our on-site nursery, as well as taking part in community projects, trips and visits. The course will enable you to gain an insight into the theories of childrens’ learning and development and you will explore important issues such as safeguarding and international perspectives on childcare.

You will be assessed through a combination of assignment tasks, observations of practice, reflections on your work experience, as well as controlled assessments during the first and second year.

Next Steps

This course could lead to university or higher training such as a BA degree, teacher training or foundation degree (Science at grade C is required). Alternatively, you could gain employment in a variety of early years’ settings such as nurseries and pre-schools, hospitals, or find work as a nanny.

You may also wish to pursue a career working abroad as a children’s rep or on cruise ships. We have excellent progression from our Level 3 course on to full time employment or university.
