Extended Diploma in Computing & Game Development
Two Years – Full time
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English and Maths, or a full Level 2 qualification with a merit profile and grades 9-4 in GCSE English and Maths.
With a focus on games development and computer science, this course is designed to provide you with the core technical and creative skills required by the global computer games development
industry as well as the wider world of employment within IT.
During your course, you will build a PC as well as design, develop and test software applications, including games. Using industry-standard software and techniques you will learn about the latest innovations in technology, computing and the web.
This two year course includes projects that cover:
- Games design and development
- IT support and maintenance
- Computer systems and games technology
- Web development
- Mobile technology
- Computer networks
In addition, you will have access to the College’s wide range of learning resources including a specialist technical workshop and dedicated gaming and IT suite. You will develop employability skills through work placement opportunities and by attending networking events with local employers and participating in events and competitions organised by local universities. In your second year, you will be involved in the Enterprise and Digital Industries end of year show where you will be able to showcase your best work to the general public, local employers and universities.
You could progress to study a degree in computer science, games development, software development, electronic arts, media, graphic design, music technology or computer aided design, or consider an Apprenticeship in IT technical support, web development or digital media.
