Q: Tell us about the grant you have recently been awarded
A: The grant came from the Young Entrepreneurs Scheme to set up my very own business. I had to devise my own business plan and present a pitch for my business idea, All 7 Productions, which will offer digital media services such as the editing and production of videos and images for corporate organisations and freelance companies.
Q: What support have you had from the College?
A: I was strongly encouraged by my lecturers and the Principal at Fareham College who made me aware of the competition, and gave me support, advice and confidence throughout. The skills I learnt on my course were invaluable as well – I did work experience with a new company while at college which inspired me to consider starting my own business.
Q: What are your aspirations for the future?
A: My future goal is to run my business from an office with a small workforce and my own studio. I would also like to be involved with local schools and colleges, providing talks and workshops to encourage and inspire young people to do the best they can. It is important to me that other young people experience a real-life workplace to gain important skills for the future, so I plan to offer work experience opportunities at his company.
Q: What advice would you give to students currently at college and thinking about an entrepreneurial future path?
A: You must be prepared to work hard. If you put the effort in early, you will be rewarded later. It is also about getting to know people, making connections, building relationships and networking, you can’t get anywhere on your own. It’s important to seek advice and ask questions from those who are more experienced than you.”
