The UK’s College of the Year, Fareham College invited Mercedes AMG HPP, the engine supplier to the four-time F1 World Championship winning team Mercedes AMG, to meet with the college’s talented engineering students and present an award to one lucky winner.
Lee Walters from Mercedes AMG HPP presented an award to Thomas Irwin who will receive £500, work experience at the Mercedes AMG HPP Technology Centre and a guaranteed interview for its apprenticeship programme.
Thomas Irwin, Mechanical Engineering 1st year student, from Fareham College said:
“Engineering is the only career path I have ever wanted to follow. The teachers at Fareham have been kind, friendly and supportive, and opened my eyes to all the possible jobs available in this area. I can’t believe I’ve won this award and am excited to have the opportunity to work with a Formula 1 engine manufacturer! I look forward to learning even more when I am there.”
Lee Walters from Mercedes AMG HPP said:
“It is always a pleasure to meet with bright young students at Fareham College who will no doubt go on to achieve great success in their engineering careers. Who knows, perhaps the winner of the award will go on to build and design the next generation of Formula 1 engine in the future.”
The relationship that Mercedes AMG HPP have with Fareham College is another example of the college’s strong links with leading technology, manufacturing and engineering businesses. The college currently partners with BAE systems, GE Aviation and Airbus.
