Talented Students Impress the Crowd at this Year’s Art Exhibition
The Art, Design and Fashion Department pulled out all the stops to hold a professional showcase of the students’ creative projects. With a range of work from the Level 3 programmes of study, the exhibition showcased the exceptionally high standard of imagination, craftsmanship and dedication that this department is renowned for.
The exhibition itself was well attended by students, parents and the local community. Justin Bateman, Art and Design Lecturer at Fareham College, commented; “We have a very diverse range of artwork here this year. Students have been looking at a variety of in-depth topics and they have all created very unique concepts and interesting pieces of work. All of the Foundation Diploma students have unanimously been offered places at their first choice universities which is a fantastic achievement. I am so proud of our students and they have been absolutely terrific this year.”
Stacie Clark, Foundation Art and Design Student, said: “After going through some difficult times this year and losing people close to me, I was left with many unanswered questions which inspired me to find answers. What happens after we die? I researched theories and perceptions on what happens after death by reading reviews and blogs about people who have had transcendental experiences, as well as visiting a Medium.
I decided to create a simple but striking installation piece which was inspired by life after death. I tried to create the illusion of ‘walking towards the light’ or ‘another dimension’, using natural light from the glass ceiling to give it light as if it contained a soul. I cut sheet plastic into triangles and rolled it to produce a confined tunnel shape and used staples to join the material together. It was created piece by piece and hung in the same manor using fishing wire. The design came from playing around with different shapes and sizes, as well as materials, before settling on the final concept.
I’ve had an absolutely fantastic time studying the Foundation course this year. Justin has been by far the best teacher I’ve ever had and I’ve really enjoyed my time at Fareham College. My plans now are to start at Southampton Solent University in September to study Interior Design.”
Huge congratulations to the students who showcased their work at the exhibition and we wish you well in your next steps. We look forward to next year for yet another brilliant spectacle of fashion, art and design.
