Art, Design and Fashion Students Take New York!
This month our Art, Design and Fashion students had the exciting opportunity to visit New York on their study trip. The aim of the visit was for the students to experience the historical and cultural aspects of the city as well as immerse themselves in all the art available at their fingertips.
The staff and students arrived and headed straight out in an attempt to squeeze as much sight-seeing as possible into the time they had. Activities included a street-art tour of Brooklyn and a walk around snowy Central Park, as well as trips to Times Square, The Museum of Modern Art, The Chrysler Building, and of course Top of the Rock for beautiful views across the city.
Fashion lecturer, Amanda Stevenson, said: “New York is a fantastic city to visit, this gave all the students who attended valuable research for current projects along with an insight into American Culture with a glimpse into what is on offer in the city that never sleeps. The students who participated in the trip were a credit to Fareham College. They were polite, engaged and a pleasure to take out and from the reaction of the students it is a city they would like to explore further. We all had an amazing time.”
Level 3 Fashion student, Sophie Taylor, said: “I’d never been to New York before and it was such an exciting experience. On the first day we went to an American style diner and all the waiters and waitresses were singing and dancing – I’d never seen anything like it before. I can’t wait to go back one day and explore more of the city!”
Level 3 Fashion student, Hayley Clarke, said: “The graffiti tour in Brooklyn was a great experience. We wandered around the city and the tour guide showed us all the street art and talked us through the stories behind them. It was really fascinating and a highlight of the trip.”
Fareham College students enjoy many enrichment activities and trips to engage and inspire their creativity. Trips in the past have included Berlin, Lisbon, Budapest, Florence and many more.
