Strike a Pose: Fareham College Students Showcase their Talents at Annual Hair & Beauty Competition
Fareham College’s annual Hair & Beauty Showcase took place at Ferneham Hall this week, demonstrating the flair, creativity and exceptional talents of its current cohort of budding hairdressers, beauty therapists and make-up artists.
The event provided an extravagant showcase of innovative and imaginative hair and make-up creations, all compiled by Fareham College’s dedicated Hair and Beauty students.
For over two months, students have been competing in heats held at the College, with those shortlisted securing the chance to display their creations at the showcase event at Ferneham Hall in front of a packed audience.
The winners of each category, who were inspired by the glamorous themes of ‘Enchanted Forest’, ‘Mardi Gras, ‘Atlantis’, ‘Jungle’, ‘Freaky Circus’, ‘Graffiti Street Art’, and ‘Futuristic’, were decided by a judging panel of industry experts including hairdressers and beauty therapists from commercial salons and leading companies in the sector.
Katie Summers, Hairdressing Lecturer, said:
“I am extremely proud of all the students within our Hair and Beauty department for demonstrating such hard work and dedication on the evening and the preparation that has taken place in the months running up to the event. All of the contestants’ work has been of an incredibly high standard. The students always love taking part in the Hair and Beauty showcase and thoroughly enjoy the experience of seeing their work unveiled at such a high-profile event. Well done and thank you to all students, models and staff at Fareham College who took part in making our annual showcase a success.”
Nigel Duncan, Principal of Fareham College, commented:

The students who took part are distinct and confident in their evident talents and really show the high quality of the work they produce – the standard clearly demonstrated that if you want to work as a professional stylist, therapist, make-up artist or hairdresser, Fareham College is the place to study. The continued development of our Bishopsfield Road Campus is providing our Hairdressing, Specialised Make-up and Beauty Therapy, as well as the College’s many other disciplines, with access to the best and most up to date resources, equipment and expert tutors.”
Vicky Morrall, Head of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy praised her department’s dedication in putting on such an incredible event:
“This has been the most fantastic showcase of creativity and hard work by our full and part time students and I am so proud of how masterfully and professionally they have converted a concept into a work of art”.
The showcase gave students not only the chance to demonstrate the practical skills they have learnt throughout their course, but also the opportunity to interpret a brief, work in a competitive environment and experience the teamwork, organisational and customer service skills needed in order to succeed in the fast-paced, dynamic and ever-evolving hair and beauty industry.
Many congratulations to all who took part and made the event such a huge success and incredibly show!
