This is a fully inclusive training programme designed to meet your individual needs. This comprises of a minimum of four delivered training sessions, followed by professional discussions, tutorials and practical assessments.
A practical based qualification for those who wish to assess occupational competence in the work environment. Intended for those who assess vocational skills knowledge and understanding in a range of environments. i.e. workplace, workshop, classroom, or other training environments.
This qualification is made up of three units:
- Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
- Assessing occupational competence in the workplace
- Assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

Through the production of a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate assessment practice, observation of practice, and professional discussion.
Must be aged 19+
This course is suitable for people who assess both occupational and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding within the workplace as part of quality standards
You require a minimum of two candidates to assess (including one with special arrangement requirements)
Interview with Student Services and a member of the course team required.
During this qualification you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to work as an assessor.

During your assessment practice you will develop the following skills
- Planning and choosing approprate, holistic assessment methods
- Make accurate assessment judgments and provide constructive feedback
- Communicate with learners and others
- Contribute to standardisation and moderation
- Facilitate advice and guidance
During your taught sessions you will develop the following knowledge
- The role of the assessor
- Types, methods and principles of assessments
- The quality cycle
- Legal and organisational requirements for recording, sharing and storing data
- Types and methods of recording and tracking assessment decisions
- How to access advice and the referal process for learners
- Approaches to sustainable assessment
This can be delivered as an apprenticeship standard if you have a suitable employer.
Level 3 Award in Education and Training or Level 4 Award in Internal quality assurances of processes and practice.

Will I have to pay fees?
School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies.
If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. Find more information on Advanced Learner Loans on our website.
If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived:
- Universal Credit
- Income Support
You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course).
* If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement.
