Introduction

Aiming for a career in dance, musical theatre or acting is exciting and challenging. Our courses will give you the professional training needed to hone your technique, develop your skills and project your talent to help you stand out in this competitive industry.

Whether you want to be in front or behind the camera, on-stage or backstage, our excellent Performing Arts department will provide you with professional, up-to-date training to maximise your chances of entering the industry directly, or securing a place at a specialist drama or dance school, or university.

Our facilities are second-to-none, with our very own fully-equipped Treehouse Theatre 141 and specialist dance, drama and rehearsal studios.

Throughout your course, you will perform and help produce plays and shows of the highest quality – all of which repeatedly receive outstanding acclaim.

Full Time Courses

Our full time courses focus on helping you to develop your performance skills including voice and speech coaching, singing, movement, musical theatre, acting for camera and radio and children’s theatre.

Based in our excellent studio facilities you will also learn the principles of audience engagement, develop a critical and contextual awareness, collaborate with other disciplines such as music, media, fashion and specialist make-up, undertake front-of-house theatre operations, and understand the process of creating and executing a production.

Our full time courses provide:

  • Excellent facilities, including a professional-standard theatre, dance studio, media suite and rehearsal rooms
  • Participation in three main performances per year, including at least one full musical
  • Membership of our exclusive, and highly regarded, Purple Trees Theatre Company
  • Tuition from lecturers who are highly experienced performers and technical professionals
  • Industry masterclasses and workshops from visiting performing arts professionals
  • Extensive opportunities to perform regularly in-front of real audiences, both on and off-site, in a range of locations and contexts

  • Regular ‘clinics’ and experience in audition techniques and building repertoire

Course Facilities

Our Performing Arts facilities have recently received massive investment as part of a £16 million campus redevelopment project, and replicate a realistic theatrical setting, with equipment including:

  • 120 seat professional-standard theatre, with full sound system, lighting rigs, dedicated technical support, and operational front of house area
  • Media suite and rehearsal rooms
  • Modern fully-sprung dance studio with mirrors and barres
  • Extensive wardrobe of costumes, props and scenic equipment
  • Video equipment to record live performances
  • Theatrical hair and make-up stylists provided for all performances
  • Film studio for professional headshots, photoshoots and filming

We offer an exciting Theatre Technician apprenticeship, designed to equip you with the skills to work successfully in the industry. You will have a full time job and earn a wage working in a theatre, while also attending College, usually for a day a week, in order to gain a nationally-recognised qualification and essential competencies.

An apprenticeship in this area supports you in becoming a highly-talented off-stage/ backstage technician. You can specialise in lighting, sound or stage and undertake hands-on training to develop the skills needed to create the right ambiances for audiences to enjoy theatrical performances.

Re-developed in September 2015, Fareham’s BRC campus provides an outstanding learning environment for the 2,000 learners based at the main site. With £16 million of investment, Fareham’s students have access to transforming facilities and the latest technologies and curriculum-based equipment to support some of the best technical and professional teaching in Hampshire.
