We have been made aware that one of our employees is awaiting a test for COVID-19.
We do not have any confirmed cases of staff or students who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. This employee is isolating at home. The employee works in a largely administrative part of the college and has not had direct contact with students in recent days.
The college is following advice from, Public Health England and the Department for Education.
It seems prudent to now contain potential contact points as far as practicable. As such a small number of colleagues who have had direct contact with the person affected have been asked to work from home until we have further assessed the situation. This is a proportionate precautionary response and will be reviewed continually.
I understand that parents may be worried, but following advice, I am assured that there is no need for the College to close. The Department for Education has set up a helpline for parents should you have any queries or concerns. 0800 046 8687.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that there are simple measures we can all take to reduce the spread of infections, including Coronavirus:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water, for a minimum of 20 seconds especially after using public transport
• If soap and water is unavailable, use alcohol-based hand sanitiser
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
• Catch your cough or sneeze in a tissue. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
